Coney Island

Some things aren’t what they used to be (no, that was not a reference to your body). Coney Island may not be the carnival it once was, but it still is New York City’s legendary amusement district.

Before you plan the trip and blame me for painting too pretty of a picture, know this: Coney Island is not a theme park. Coney Island falls short in the realm of entertainment compared to Six Flags or Disney World, but it holds a different appeal. Coney Island is a seaside playground for children and adults alike, and it has been around for decades. You should still plan to play at this park.

If you haven’t heard of the Cyclone, it happens to be the 80 year old iconic wooden roller coaster at Coney Island. The Cyclone is just one thrill ride next to about 19 other spinning, spiraling, twisting, and turning rides at the new Luna Park on Coney Island. In fact, just this month Luna Park will be celebrating its 1st birthday.

If getting sick to your stomach isn’t enticing, the beach neighbors the boardwalk. Plenty of people bask in the rays, play volleyball, or take a dip in the ocean deep. Spending a summer day at Coney Island and the beach will be spectacular.

While you are bathing on the beach, you can also glimpse and gasp at the Sideshows by the Seashore. These sideshows include outrageous acts and freakish talents like sword swallowing and other shocking tricks.

For your cravings, Coney Island is home to the original Nathan’s Famous for world renowned hotdogs. If you happen to be cruising Coney Island this summer around July 4th, you can witness the annual hot dog-eating contest.

To keep the carnival flare, Coney Island has traditional games and contests that clutter the entire boardwalk. So get your game on, take pretty pictures and allow yourself to enjoy Coney Island for what it is.
