There are places to eat in NYC that are practically a rite of passage. When Oprah takes the time to rant and rave about a restaurant in the city, take the advice as if it were scripture. I would like to echo Oprah and recommend you treat yourself to a treat at Serendipity.
Serendipity is a lovely joint. The bad news is the reputation doesn’t help the hours you’ll spend waiting in line. Don’t let my disclaimer discourage you, put your name down on the list, and waltz over to Fifth Avenue for glorious shopping with the glamorous.
The great news happens to also be the reputation of Serendipity. You will not be disappointed with the divinely, delicious dinner [or lunch] you devour.
Although the food is fabulous and the atmosphere of the dining is fun, the employees know that the reason people come is the dessert. I am afraid your sweet tooth will never be satisfied again when you sip the notorious Frrrozen Hot Chocolate.
Let it be known Frrrozen Hot Chocolate from Serendipity is heaven through a straw, and sharing could be dangerous. You’ll want your own.
For the record, Serendipity also happens to offer the Guinness World Record Golden Opulence Sundae. Before you set your heart on ordering this tasty treat, you should know the record this sundae happens to hold is for the most expensive dessert. Hold your breath, and your wallet, because the Golden Opulence Sundae is $1000.00. This dessert happens to literally be laced in gold and has to be ordered 48 hours in advance.

I won’t judge you if you just sip your Frrrozen Hot Chocolate and skip the Golden Opulence Sundae. But I will judge you if you skip a trip to Serendipity.
